The manifesto
Software didn’t explode because people needed more tools. It exploded because people couldn’t build. So we bought.
Each subscription was a reasonable answer to a real need — a hundred of them, piling up one at a time. But rented software comes shaped to the vendor, not to you: your own processes end up buried inside someone else’s workflow builder, priced by the seat — rent on every person who touches the work.
Nobody was wrong to do this. Building was expensive, so renting was rational. The entire SaaS era was a workaround for a single number: the price of custom software.
That number just collapsed.
People don’t want to manage tools. They want to move through a process — theirs, not the median customer’s. And for the first time, that’s affordable.
So, what we believe:
- Work should adapt to people, not the other way around.
- Processes should be visible, not buried in a vendor’s workflow builder.
- Custom means custom logic — your rules behind boring interfaces — not custom buttons.
- Software should be built by default and bought by exception.
- What’s worth buying is rails: the data, rules, actions, and liability that connect software to reality. Metered, never seated.
- Everything above the rails is yours.
The screens melt. The rails remain. The process comes home.
Less SaaS isn’t the goal. It’s the consequence.
